Our favorite weather business analyst Paul Walsh explains that the impact of cold weather on shopping is increasing because of these three factors:

  • The forecast is more accurate. As weather science continues to improve, forecast accuracy gives shoppers confidence to act upon what they are learning.
  • Consumers are now accessing weather data on mobile phones. This increases the number of times per day the weather forecast is checked.
  • Social media communications amplify forecast data and provided heightened awareness.
