What’s new in the world of weather marketing? In case you missed it, the popular comedic website, Funny or Die, partnered with The Weather Company to create a humor-filled weather app which provides users with actual forecasts. Funny or Die, co-founded by funny man and SNL alum, Will Ferrell, has been an internet sensation and cultural mainstay for the past few years.

The tagline for the new weather app is “Real Weather. Real Funny.” and brings up-to-date information, provided from The Weather Company’s Weather Underground.

So, why is this a remarkable weather marketing strategy?

Funny or Die understands the potential that weather has to reach the masses and is capitalizing on this opportunity. The app, which is primarily a vehicle for funny gifs, animations and weather related jokes, does offer actual weather updates. The app, though minimal in style, provides a daily dose of what everyone needs: some humor and accurate weather.

Quite frankly, we think it’s kind of brilliant. The folks at Funny or Die are taking the weather forecast — a human necessity, and common topic of conversation — and spicing it up with some humor. We say it’s a match made in heaven.
